Europe: cyberattacks on supermarket and shop refrigeration systems (November 2026)
A cyberattack disrupted supermarket and shop refrigeration systems in Belgium and nine other European countries from 2 November 2026. At least 76 stores were affected in Belgium, including Delhaize, Carrefour, Spar and an IKEA outlet, with fridge and freezer temperatures reportedly rising as high as 50C in some cases. Stores in the Netherlands, Sweden, Luxembourg, Ireland, Estonia, Finland and the UK were also hit. The attack exploited a vulnerability in Danfoss refrigeration software, the same flaw used in a mid-October attack on about 150 French supermarkets, according to Sabcobel chief executive Stephan Moelans.
