Russian drone attack kills 1 in Kyiv region, sets dormitory ablaze

1 man was killed and another injured overnight when a Russian drone attack hit Bucha district, in Ukraine's Kyiv region, regional governor Tymur Tkachenko said on Telegram. "The enemy has taken the life of a man during a drone attack on the Kyiv region," Tkachenko wrote, adding that the second resident was being treated by medics for injuries sustained in the same strike.

The attack set a dormitory and an industrial building on fire, Tkachenko said. Emergency crews brought the blaze under control, according to Ukrainian outlet Ukrainska Pravda, which cited the governor's account. The extent of damage to the two buildings was not given in his statement.

The strike in Bucha district came a day after a separate Russian drone attack killed three people and injured four others near the Kyiv-Odesa highway in the settlement of Chabany, also in Kyiv region, on Tuesday, Ukrainska Pravda reported. Officials have not said whether the two strikes, a day apart, used the same type of drone or followed the same flight path.

The overnight attack on Bucha district was part of a wider bombardment that hit several parts of Ukraine, including a 24-storey residential building in Kyiv, where a separate drone strike killed two people, and villages in the Kharkiv region, where a drone attack killed two elderly residents, as Russia continued a pattern of nightly drone and missile strikes on towns and cities well away from the front line.

Kyiv region, which surrounds the capital and includes towns such as Bucha that were occupied by Russian forces earlier in the war, has faced repeated drone attacks on residential and industrial sites in recent weeks, regional officials have said. Tuesday's attack in Chabany and Wednesday's strike in Bucha district were the second and third deadly drone attacks reported in the region within two days, officials' statements show.
